Chris Hundley
For more than a decade, U.S. Navy First Class Petty Officer Chris Hundley has helped protect our freedoms domestically and abroad. On June 30th, 2023, days before America celebrated its independence, Hundley started his very own American Dream in St. Augustine (FL) by launching Brightway, The Hollis Hundley Agency insurance office on West Town Place in St. Augustine.
A Virginia native, Hundley enlisted out of high school in 2012 planning to serve a long career in the Navy. While serving he met his wife Mayra and, soon after, had their first child. After oversea deployments, his personal and professional life appeared to be going as planned. However, a routine medical check uncovered a heart defect that led to a career-altering surgery. The Navy allowed Hundley to stay in the service. But, with his newfound condition and a young family depending on him here at home, his days of being sent to other lands to serve were now behind him.
“I always saw myself in the Navy,” Hundley said. “When I was six, the events of September 11, 2001 took place here at home. I remember my parents picking me up from school, seeing people everywhere crying and all of the sudden seeing the barrage of commercials encouraging military enlistment. And with grandparents who served at times of conflict, patriotism has always been close to my heart.”
A fan of the movie, “Men of Honor,” Hundley distinctly remembers what his dreams were as a young child. “I told my dad I wanted to be a husband, a father and a Master Chief in the U.S. Navy,” Hundley remembers. “Being able to prepare people to protect themselves is a passion of mine,” Hundley added. “I guess that’s why insurance has truly become a passion of mine. I’m so excited about the future of the agency.”
Now medically retired, Chris finds joy in spending time with his family, building his business, pursuing future goals of law school and politics and being on the golf course! Golf has been the best therapy for him and helped him find connections and camaraderie outside of the military!
Michael Idzior
Mike’s interest in golf began in his freshman year at Pinconning High School in Pinconning, Michigan. With very little experience, he felt fortunate to make the team and was able to compete in multiple tournaments. While he was not one of the stronger golfers in the program, he particularly enjoyed the genuine camaraderie and fellowship the game provides. Throughout his professional career, Mike continues to enjoy this side of golf with his friends at numerous golf courses throughout the state of Virginia.
Along with Dr. Koch and his family, Mike attended the 2022 USGA Adaptive Open in Pinehurst, NC. Mike was captivated by the level of golfing excellence among the athletes at the event and was especially interested in each of their stories. Mike has been particularly inspired by the challenges and adversity each individual faces and subsequently overcomes in their own unique way.
Mike currently resides in Charlottesville, VA working at the University of Virginia. His wife, Virginia, is a nurse in pediatric cardiology at UVA Health, and they have a son, Liam, who turned three this year.
Dr. Andrew Koch
Andrew Koch developed his passion for golf in 8th grade, marking the beginning of a lifelong journey with the sport. At Marine City High School, he not only played golf but also served as team captain during his senior year. Drew and his teammates progressed remarkably, transforming from a winless record in 1992 to an undefeated season in 1995. Beyond high school, Drew continued to enjoy golf recreationally, frequently playing with friends and family. Currently, he is a proud member of Birdwood Golf Club in Charlottesville, Virginia.
For Drew, golf is not just a hobby but a family affair. He has installed a putting green in his backyard where he often practices and teaches his two children, Jacob and Kayla, along with his wife Kristin, how to play. Together, they relish the challenge of paring a course in a scramble format, fostering their shared love for the game.
Drew's passion for golf was influenced greatly by his brother Steve, a dedicated public-school educator who coached golf at two different high schools throughout his career. Despite living 600 miles apart, Drew and Steve continue to play golf whenever possible, cherishing their time together on the course.
In 2022, Drew, Jacob, and Kayla attended the USGA Adaptive Open in Pinehurst, NC, reflecting the Koch family's unwavering support for golfers of all backgrounds and abilities. They are dedicated advocates for the sport, encouraging everyone to embrace and thrive in the world's greatest game. Currently, Drew and his family live in Charlottesville, Virginia where he serves on the faculty at the University of Virginia.
